For many organizations, one area of complexity in the talent acquisition process is employment screening. Screening is a critical step for employers because it can help reduce the risk of employing a bad hire. In fact, according to the recent Hire Right Employment Screening Benchmark Report, 86 percent of respondents reported they discovered applicants who lied or had misrepresentations on their resumes or job applications.
On November 18, 2015, the City of Portland’s Mayor, Charlie Hales, proposed a new ordinance that would expand on the statewide Ban the Box legislation. As per the ordinance, most Portland employers would be forced to delay criminal background checks until after making a job offer to a prospective hire.
