    Global Talent Acquisition Day 2021: What Lies Ahead For Recruiters

    Global Talent Acquisition Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday of September to recognize those who work in talent acquisition.
     
    Khai Jones.jpg Denise Bindelglass.jpg As another Global Talent Acquisition Day is around the corner, Khai Jones, Senior Director of Global Talent, Tektronix and Denise Bindelglass, Vice President of People at ActiveCampaign share their plans for the special day, what they think would be the biggest challenge for recruiters in future and what qualities make a great recruiter.

    Q: Are you planning to celebrate Global TA Day? How?

    Khai Jones: Absolutely!  I’d like to ensure that I’m recognizing the efforts of the Tek TA team.  They work so hard and bring their best to work on a daily basis. I can’t let Global TA Day go by without recognizing them!

    At Tektronix, we have a global recognition tool that allows us to recognize employees and their efforts – either through a simple e-card or through various monetary gift options. I’ve found this to be very effective for recognition! We will also consider adding a blurb in our company newsletter.

    Denise Bindelglass: Yes, we're planning both an internal and external celebration of our talented, hard-working talent acquisition team. They've onboarded over 200 employees globally in 2021 alone.

    To recognize them, we're sending each member of the TA team a gift box and encouraging our employees to reconnect with their recruiter. Externally, we're posting a TA team photo on ActiveCampaign's corporate Instagram and thanking them for their hard work. This is also a good time to remind employees to post a review on sites like Glassdoor and Comparably about their recruiting experience.

    Q: What is going to be the biggest challenge ahead for recruiters?

    Khai Jones: The talent landscape is really tough right now. Candidates have more choice as a result of the pandemic, and they are much more selective about the role and company they pursue. It’s no longer just about the brand of the company. It’s about flexibility, passion, opportunity, growth, pay and livelihood, and true balance. Recruiters must tap into candidate desires in a much deeper way than they have before.

    Denise Bindelglass: The biggest challenge for recruiters is the labor and applicant shortage around the world. It’s made it more difficult to find and attract prospective employees in almost every business sector. Therefore, competition for good talent is extremely high, and as a result, many recruiters, HR leaders and companies need to go above and beyond the traditional table stake benefits and perks to attract quality talent.

    In a tight and very competitive market, there is a lot of pressure on the recruiting team to provide a stand-out experience that leaves the candidates wanting more. The recruiters that have the ability to do this tend to have a lot of conviction behind the company story, and an ability to sell the vision, story and the role in a compelling way.

    Q: What are some of the qualities that make a great recruiter?

    Khai Jones: Recruiters have to be customer-obsessed. They have to ensure that they understand the true needs of a role, can articulate that in a meaningful and accurate way to candidates and can dig deep into candidate desires to make the best match for the company, the team, and the hiring manager. Great recruiters are always willing to go that extra mile, and they are innately curious.

    Denise Bindelglass: The best recruiters have a high level of emotional intelligence and empathy. The foundation of success for recruiters relies heavily on trust and relationships, and the recruiters that always stand out are the ones who have the innate ability to meet people where they are at. The best recruiters operate with transparency and over-communicate in an effort to keep their candidates and stakeholders informed despite not always having the "answer."

    Some of the best recruiters put a lot of emphasis and concentration on candidate experience. When recruiters focus on ensuring the prospective employee’s needs are met throughout the entire candidate experience, it helps build a strong connection with the candidate and provides them with an excellent experience before they start working for the company.
