Fifteen years ago, social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn did not exist. Now, they are so embedded in our societal and organizational cultures that the majority of consumers access at least one of these platforms on a daily basis. The ease with which we are able to stay informed and feel that we have shared in someone else’s experiences has intensified.

A good manager knows how to be hands-on by debriefing his or her staff to foster learning and accountability. A micromanager, on the other hand, always dictates how to do everything at the workplace and refuses to delegate any decision making. In an attempt to enhance the productivity and performance of their team members, many managers end up micromanaging their employees, whether knowingly and unknowingly.

Science has proven that touch can be addictive. Students have been shown to participate more in class after a teacher touches their back or arm. Sports teams who fist-bump or hug may perform better in the big game. Why? Friendly touch decreases cortisol, a stress hormone, while at the same time increasing oxytocin, also called the “love hormone” or “cuddle hormone.”
