It’s the season of performance assessments, program reviews and personal inventories. What was successful? What changes could be made in order to achieve our best potential? For some, this is a formal review process; for others it’s a casual “gut-check”.
Employee engagement is one of the most important differentiators for organizations, and it’s an issue that nearly every organizational leader has thought about recently. It’s the emotional commitment an employee has to their role, their organization, and stakeholders.
Many people remember seeing these encouraging comments written on the top of their elementary school homework assignments. The friendly green ink and the accompanying colorful stickers always seemed to bring a smile to an ordinary moment during the day.
I’m not much of a sports fan. I feigned interest in my youth for recruitment purposes, eventually acquiring a husband who lives for SportNet highlights and listens to radio announcers talk about one player longer than my book club meets.
This same report also indicated that the majority of their executives (70%) reported being engaged as opposed to only 10% who reported they were either extremely or somewhat uncommitted.
When people are the focus of your job, good communication, understanding, and clarity are essential, but that’s easier said than done. HR teams with effective communication systems work smoothly, efficiently, and ultimately drive greater impact within their companies.
To risk stating the obvious, there’s a well-established connection between employee engagement and performance outcomes. It’s a self-evident truth that people who are engaged in their work perform better, the same way that engaged drivers to drive better.
