Similar to several employee engagement and workplace transparency innovations we are seeing today, you have to wipe away the past and think about how social recognition will impact the world of HR going forward. I am pleased to say that social recognition not only fits with lots of the things I’m working on currently, and more generally where I believe HR functions and practitioners need to work towards, it also excites me as an HR guy.

It’s natural for team managers to want to recognize and reward employees when they achieve success. Companies that provide generous employee recognition have a 31% lower voluntary turnover rate than companies that don’t, according to a study by Bersin and Associates. Moreover, other studies have indicated thatemployees who are recognized for good behavior or performance are more likely to repeat those behavior and actions, and that in the long run will help build a stronger business.
