Most of us work in a task bubble where emails and texts and phone calls are thrown around like confetti. To-do lists get accomplished, while other items remain undone and yet, we still move onward.
Supporting your boss reflects favorably on you. Why? Every career professional today faces unrelenting time pressure. The continuing chore of having to get things done wears on everyone – your boss included. When you prove to be a valuable team player who knows how to get your assignments done, benefit the team and the organization, and make your boss look good, you stand out like few employees ever will.
How often do you take the time to do a thorough debrief of a work project or a life event? There are cycles to work AND life, and if you’ll pause to reflect on the progress you’ve made AND how far you have to go, you put yourself in a position to be both strategic and tactical in your approach to getting things done..
"If the cabin loses pressure, an oxygen mask will automatically appear in front of you. Pull the mask towards you, and place it firmly over your nose and mouth. If you are travelling with someone who requires assistance, secure your mask first, and then assist others." I heard this announcement for about the "millionth" time while flying last week, but something hit me.
For the many years I’ve been writing this column, I conclude each year with an inspirational message about the importance of the holidays. This year I would like to take a different approach. I would like to suggest that the holidays don’t really matter and there is nothing you really need to do about them.
