Influencing People: Use six non-manipulative keys

If you’re already as successful as you want to be, personally and professionally, all you are likely to get from me is a semi-entertaining tale about a guy who failed his way to success. But you might also notice some familiar patterns in my story that will give you confirmation (or confirmation bias) that your own success wasn’t entirely luck. That’s the sort of validation you can’t get from your family and friends who see you as a hot mess.

Turn Adversaries into Allies: Win people without manipulation or coercion

This topic touches a chord with almost anyone who has ever: worked for someone; lead a team; managed a project; taught a class; coached athletes; served as a member of a club, church, or association; run for or held some political office; or been a member of a family—in other words, everyone.

Celebrate Your Inner Wimp: Six ways to get ahead by showing weakness

Do any of these scenarios sound familiar? A colleague sends you a snarky email, so you type a cutting response. A Facebook friend insults your political beliefs in a post, so you write a scathing comment back. A team member arrives late and unprepared for a meeting, so you berate him in front of the group. Aunt Betty belittles your career choices, so you angrily counter her criticisms and throw in a few insults of your own.

One prevailing belief is that work is, on the whole, an activity that must entail a degree of pain, boredom or suffering. It is something we have no real choice over—we just have to do it.

Become a Millionaire: You can do it, no matter your income

A 2013 report from the Chicago-based Spectrem Group estimates there are 9 million households in the United States with a net worth of at least $1 million. A contrasting report issued late last year from the American Payroll Association showed 68 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. More than two-thirds of the 30,600 people surveyed said it would be difficult if their paychecks were delayed for a week.
