As a leader, can you freely make the decisions you really want to make, even when it disturbs others? Maybe you have a hard time saying no to people who admire you. Or you withdraw when people get upset. Most leaders limit their freedom by ignoring or denying their emotional junk. However, if you are like most leaders, it is hard to be that bold.
At times, if you’re like most leaders, it’s hard to be that bold. Sometimes your emotional junk (residue from challenging times in your life) is right at the surface, diminishing your ability to do what needs to be done. This residue often takes the form of unconscious thoughts.
Let’s visit an important concept summed up beautifully by the author Brené Brown: Authenticity is not an excuse to over-share. Take a moment to think about your "favorite" over-sharer. Maybe it’s a co-worker who spends twenty minutes per day hopping from desk to desk complaining about his stream of bad dates.
As an advocate for gender parity and diversity, I strive to broadcast a message about the immense economic potential of advancing women in the modern workplace. Often, my content is couched as a rallying cry for more men to become allies on the journey toward gender equality. Aside from the obvious egalitarian reasons for having more women in leadership, it also makes sense from a purely business standpoint.
Most people want to take shortcuts; however, the more thorough your preparation, the greater the likelihood is that you will have success. Preparation is essential to having confidence in yourself no matter what setting you are in—this will build your confidence when you are in high pressure situations such as interviewing for a job or dealing with higher-level bosses.
Our mind increases in strength and power when we free it from the worry and anxiety that make us stress repeatedly and unnecessarily. I say unnecessarily based on research which found that 85% of what we worry about never happens [1]. Stress fragments the mind and a fragmented mind keeps us in survival mode, where life becomes more about just making it through the day than about excelling and flourishing.
Well, maybe you need a little more information before you decide - OK consider the following. Let's look at three major life areas - careers, relationships and longevity. Sorry I'm not including money as I have learned that most of you know or have learned that money can buy travel, stuff, position, power, influence and convenience but it can't buy longer life, happiness, health and spiritual contentment.
The employee experience is greatly influenced by the relationship with the manager. In fact, employee engagement surveys frequently identify a poor leadership relationship as one of the top three reasons why employees leave the organization. The high cost of turnover can be avoided with the right attitude.
Have you ever thought to yourself, I am handling too much, perpetually? These days, we all seem to be human doings, not human beings. And, we multitask! Unfortunately, we give short shrift to concentration and focus. Indeed, concentration and focus are under rated in our current are of multitasking
