Many employees were unable to work due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. This negatively impacted their economical status. In order to reduce the financial burden caused by Covid-19-related absences at workplaces, many U.S. states are amending, or have already amended, their existing leave laws.
California passed a new Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (CA-SPSL) law in March, 2021. Unlike the former that covered only employers with 500 or more employees, the new law applies to employers with more than 25 employees. Check out Elizabeth M. Levy & Coby Turner’s article, California’s Covid-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Law to know more.
The new Covid-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave law also allows covered employees to take up to an additional 80 hours of paid Covid-19 related sick leave. Read this month’s cover article, What You Need To Know About The New Covid-19 Paid Sick Leave Law, where Michael Campbell & Kelly Hensley list down CA Labor Commissioner’s answers to some of the frequently asked questions related to the law. These will help you stay compliant with this legislation.
There’s been so much talk about whether you can screen employees for Covid symptoms. If so, how and when do you do it? Do you just take temperatures? Do you ask about symptoms? To know answers to these questions, and more, read Janette Levey Frisch’s article, Do You Screen Employees for Covid Symptoms?
