A devastating pandemic, economic crisis, the United States' presidential elections, global protests over racial injustice – The year 2020 will be remembered as one of the most tumultuous years ever.
The pandemic is an ongoing seismic event for HR and employee relations (ER) teams, but last year, the ground also shifted on the diversity and inclusion front. In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, people rose up again to demand equal justice.

Even prior to the summer of 2020, there was a recognition that focusing on diversity, or increasing representation of people from various backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences; is only part of the equation. Inclusion, or making space for and amplifying the voices of everyone in the workplace, equally, is another.
If the past four years in American politics have taught us anything, it was how NOT to be an inclusive leader. The Biden-Harris administration’s actions thus far present a significantly different picture.
Amid this Covid-19 pandemic, many organizations are trying to just survive. But even before the novel coronavirus disrupted everyone’s life in early 2020, organizations were searching for sustainable ways to drive ongoing innovation in order to develop or maintain a competitive advantage and to add value to the market.
