“Virtual workshops work well depending on the content and the design supplemented by asynchronous learning people can do at their own pace. This allows people to work at their own pace but still have a degree of social learning,” said Mark Edgar, Chief People Officer at Wajax. |
In an exclusive interview with HR.com, Mark discusses trends in learning technologies, the transformative role of AI in employee learning, and strategies for employers to build an effective learning ecosystem, among other topics.
Excerpts from the interview:
Q: What are the most significant trends in learning technologies that you foresee impacting employee development in the next few years?
Mark: We’ll continue to see even greater use of technology involved in the full learning cycle. This includes analysis through monitoring, training design and the ways training is delivered.Q: How do you envision artificial intelligence transforming personalized learning experiences for employees?
Mark: It will make it more personalized and adaptive based on an individual’s circumstances, learning style and skill level.Q: What strategies do you recommend for integrating various learning platforms and tools to create a seamless learning ecosystem?
Mark: Think about a blended approach of 70:20:10 – 70% on the job, 20% mentoring and coaching and 10% formal learning. Be careful not to rely too much on technology and ensure it is integrated with other modalities.Q: How can organizations effectively measure the impact of learning technologies on employee performance and engagement?
Mark: Be clear on the outcome the training is designed to achieve and measure progress against that. For example, if it’s behavior change, identify the behaviors and how you would know people are making progress.Q: What role do you think microlearning will play in the future of corporate training, and how can organizations best implement it?
Mark: People want to learn in the flow and have the information at their fingertips when they need it, so microlearning will play a big part.Q: How do you see VR and AR influencing skill development and training in your organization?
Mark: I don’t think it will have an impact for a while. I think it depends on the role and the skill – it would apply to everything.Q: In the context of hybrid and remote work, what learning technologies are most effective in maintaining engagement and knowledge retention? Why?
Mark: Virtual workshops work well depending on the content and the design supplemented by asynchronous learning people can do at their own pace. This allows people to work at their own pace but still have a degree of social learning.Error: No such template "/CustomCode/topleader/category"!
