With trust in government at its lowest since Watergate, citizens need reliable and effective government services that consistently get the little things right. A new survey of federal government employees released by ICF shows that the future of HR practices in government could drive the much-needed digital transformation – a process that has the potential to set best practices for the rest of the people operations industry—if only given the chance.

Since 2006, PayScale has been producing the PayScale Index, which tracks quarterly and annual trends in compensation. Admittedly, the PayScale Index hasn’t shown a lot of fluctuation over the last few years, mostly due to the fact that America has been experiencing its best economy since the great recession in 2008 with a historically low level of unemployment.
The role of HR in the workplace is on the fast track for a change. And, HR professionals are increasingly expected to do more with less staff and fewer resources, while companies are relying on them to boost employee engagement, maintain a robust company culture and manage the overall employee experience, managing employee documents can be a drain on those limited resources. Fortunately, through digital transformation, meeting all these expectations are entirely possible.
Did you realize that the way your company approaches compensation policy can actually create (or reduce) employee turnover? If keeping your people is a priority in today’s tight talent market, you need to look at whether your pay practices are competitive enough to keep workers from heading for greener pastures.
Despite the move towards ‘paperless’ offices, the volume of paper we use at work is not going down any time soon. Roughly half of Canadian businesses (47% of C-Suites and 60% of small businesses) believe the volume of paper used in their organization will either increase or remain the same over the next year, according to Shred-it’s 2018 Security Tracker survey on information security practices.
Data is quickly becoming a company’s most important asset. To monetize this asset, organizations leverage analytical tools that generate insights in order to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. One issue that has plagued corporations for years is the lack of standards and methods around their analytical capabilities, one example of which is deciding which analytical tools to build deep competencies around. How can an organization gain efficiencies, reusability, and build deep common skillsets, if each group is using a different analytical tool?
I believe, at least in near future (1 - 2 years), we will hear Alexa say "sorry, I don't have enough information on this"... and this is purely my anticipation. However, we all (professionals are not restricted to HR) could be victims of a misjudgement here. For those who are curious about Alexa - it is a latest AI product from Amazon that is similar (not debating which is better) to Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant.
Technology has changed how we work and quickened the pace of business. For individuals, it means having instant access to infinite amounts of information and being connected 24/7 – anytime, anywhere. For businesses, data and analytics have dramatically improved efficiencies and allowed operations to become increasingly agile, which are all necessary to thrive in today’s economy.
