HR departments everywhere are finding the balance between working harder and working smarter, and tailoring our working hours policies to match these goals. Like the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, it’s important to get your working hours policies just right. Demand too much of employees, and they will burn out. Make your policies too lenient, and productivity will suffer.

Payroll management falls on an HR manager who already wears so many hats, and while important, administrative tasks like those associated with running payroll can take a great deal of time away from more strategic, visionary work.

According to a recent survey by Paychex, more than half of small business owners don’t use an external service to help with processing and distributing employee paychecks. Twenty-six percent spend one to two hours every month preparing payroll, and more than a quarter spend three to five hours. More than one in 10 small business owners acknowledge spending longer than 10 hours each month on the administration of their payroll taxes.

Now you need to determine how to pull together the right program governance and make the project a success. In 20 years of implementation experience I’ve come across a number of very talented project managers and implementation teams. I sat down with Infor’s very own, Glynis Lee, Global Head of People Technology, to discuss our shared thoughts on how to make an implementation a success. We agreed upon six critical success factors and would love to hear if these resonate with you as well.

Considering the depth, breadth and the varying degree of HR technology solutions* being offered today, this key factors list will apply to the majority of HRIS implementations and is targeted at mid-market businesses with a workforce of 100 to 2,500 employees. Although employee size doesn’t necessarily dictate the complexities of implementing HR technology, employee headcount has been a decent indicator for the typical implementation requirements of a mid-market business.

Payroll outsourcing is simply the use of a service provider to handle the administrative and compliance functions of paying employees. It is important to note that payroll services are only that, and do not offer a local employer of record for the foreign company. This means that local incorporation is still required, and the other aspects of employing workers must be handled DIY or by other experts.

As tough as the choice may be for many students, the competition among the schools is even tougher. Academic reputations are at stake for the schools. They all want to attract the cream of the crop. And there are hundreds of millions of dollars in tuition fees on the line, which help institutions grow, enhance programs and innovate.
