    “We See Future Of Work As A Place Where Automation Bolsters Human Potential”

    In the first part of the Q&A series, Bettina Koblick, Chief People Officer, UiPath shared her thoughts on what the future of work will be, why employees seek more than just perks from a company, and also about her priorities in the coming years.
    In the second part, Bettina talks about how new technologies are affecting HR industry and what challenges does she foresee in future in terms of managing employees’ data.

    Excerpts from the interview:

    Q: What will be the future of work in a post-pandemic world?

    Bettina: I think our biggest lesson reinforced by the pandemic is that our only constant is change. Nearly every decade has undergone a transformation of the way we work, and we’ve learned through these changes that our workforce needs to be agile to swiftly navigate disruption. The notion that people can flex quickly to accommodate not only the work they do, but also how their work fits into their life is key. Automation and digital tools can help to foster greater business agility.

    According to our 2021 Office Worker Survey, respondents said they waste four and a half hours a week on tasks they think could be automated. At UiPath, we’re focusing on building and improving our automation platform to support the future of work—and the people doing that work. We like to say we create software robots, so humans don’t have to be robots.

    Organizations that embrace automation free people to invest more time in meaningful ways to achieve greater productivity, enhanced customer experience and improved workflows. Our vision of a robot for every person is becoming real and a top priority on many companies’ agendas. We see the future of work as a place where automation bolsters human potential. Organizations will begin to require employees to be fluent in automation technology so they can use it to their benefit.

    According to our recent study with Forrester, 73% of surveyed executives said they would pick the candidate with more experience with automation and AI tools even if the role does not require those abilities. This shift will require upskilling and reskilling—either offered by employers, higher education institutes or independent organizations.

    Q: Several HR departments turned to automation, digitalization, and cloud to ease out HR processes, such as hiring, onboarding, payroll, offboarding, etc., with remote working. How has it been at UiPath?

    Bettina: As the world’s leading automation software company, we’ve seen the incredible value that automation can provide to HR teams. When a software robot can help manage tasks like payroll or onboarding, HR professionals can dedicate their time to a wide range of value-added work like talent management, performance optimization, and culture. In fact, to date, across our company, we have saved 306,000 hours of time by using our technology.

    Q: What new forms of challenges do you anticipate in terms of employee data management in 2021?

    Bettina: Remote work has posed many challenges—a major one being data management. With everyone working in different locations, making copies of data, working on and off the server or cloud, it can be a challenge to keep track of it all—for efficiency purposes, and also for security purposes. Thankfully, with UiPath’s technology, we’re able to avoid the data silos, security concerns, and one-off data schemas by using a centralized source with enterprise-grade security and role-based access controls to ensure the right people can access the right data.
