With work, workforce and workplace undergoing a drastic transformation today, what will the future workplace look like? How many people will want to work in an office once the pandemic is over and restrictions are lifted?
There are several elements HR teams should consider when reshaping workplaces for the post-Covid era and the “new normal” to guarantee comfort, instill confidence and promote connectedness among employees.
Is there a post-Covid “new normal” for the workplace? It’s not clear yet. But, we should not be lulled into a false sense of security that Pfizer’s potential vaccine for Covid-19 is going to end our 2020 national nightmare.
News about progress toward creating an effective vaccine has many Americans eagerly awaiting the end of the pandemic that has disrupted our lives for most of 2020.
Beyond necessity, Covid-19 has helped many companies realize the value of remote operations and it’s likely we’ll see them providing employees more choices and flexibilities in the post-pandemic world.
The flexible workspace market has been growing at nearly a 23% per year annual growth rate for 10 years. Today, independently-owned flexible workspace providers control just 5% of office space, that number is expected to grow to 30% by 2030.
We spend nearly 100,000 hours at work during our lifetime. This provides a strong hint as to why my research reveals that our work environment is the leading driver of our employee engagement.
We often consider onboarding practices, which is “the process of integrating an employee with a company and its culture, as well as providing the tools and information needed to become a productive member of the team”, as one exclusive to new employees.
Remember the first day of your new job? From navigating a new office to learning your co-worker’s names and where they sit, what position they are in — it’s a full day of overwhelming firsts.
