    Health Benefits Plan: Is your traditional benefits plan meeting your employees’ real needs?

    What is the purpose of a health benefits plan? 2014’s Sanofi Healthcare Survey – Canada’s largest national survey of plan sponsors and plan members – asked plan sponsors why they offer their health benefits plan. Not surprisingly, a lot of sponsors – 67 per cent – chose this statement: “Coverage so employees are not placed under undue financial burden” and 57 per cent indicated it was a strategy to “attract and retain employees.” Those are legitimate positions. Interestingly, only 31 per cent appeared to make the link between health and the bottom line: “Healthier employees are more productive employees; our health benefit plan is one of our corporate strategies to grow or improve our core business.”
