Healthcare costs are continuing to rise, outpacing inflation. According to the ADA, about 30.3 million people in the U.S. are living with diabetes. In 2017, the total estimated costs associated with diagnosed diabetes were a staggering $327 billion, an increase of 26 percent compared to 2012.
The American Diabetes Association (the Association) recently released a new economic report that details the fiscal impact of diabetes in the United States – and the results should alarm employers, benefit managers, and HR executives.

A recent report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau shows that many grads are waiting longer to start student loan repayment and taking longer to pay off those loans. Employers have an opportunity to attract and retain top talent by helping alleviate some of this financial burden for their employees.
When workplace wellness programs are successful, businesses reduce health risks and minimize healthcare costs. Additionally, according to this employee wellness program case study, when employees are healthy, it improves employee morale, commitment, productivity, and safety outcomes.
