According to a survey by Bank of America, 85 percent of employees report they are not saving enough for retirement. Additionally, 65 percent ranked themselves as being “not financially well,” which has a direct impact on their commitment to saving for retirement.
Is Gen-Y better informed about health options and lifestyle choices, or is all the talk about nutritious and fresh food just plain talk? Are they really Health-Y?
Most worksite wellness programs today are not really wellness programs at all – they are employee health status management programs. Why do I say this? Most worksite wellness programs focus solely on employee physical health, to the exclusion of all the other dimensions of wellness.
One of my favorite definitions to play with for clarity of focus can be found on Wikipedia which describes rumination as compulsively focused attention on symptoms of one's distress and on its possible causes and consequences as opposed to its solutions. Rumination flows from an unsatisfied state of being and is often fueled by our self -judgments due to unmet goals or perceived failures in life. Remember, failure is simply a label we place on undesirable outcomes.
While traveling often involves a change in our usual eating and exercise routine, one of the greatest reasons why we put on “travel pounds” is due to how we’re ordering our food and what we’re eating at different restaurants while away. Is there a simple way to navigate a restaurant menu? All it takes is a little education and as usual…a plan.
Sometimes it’s great to be spontaneous – to shake things up in your personal life by rocking a new haircut, heading out on a spur-of-the-moment daytrip, trying a new restaurant or, to really get the heart pumping, taking a leap of faith with a bungee jump.

The big buzz in employee health care for the past two years has been, and continues to be, wellness. The focus on that topic has been almost relentless, and the discussions with and among employers has been deafening. Companies want wellness initiatives and are almost religious about it. Zealots of wellness programs have been pounding the drum louder and louder going into 2013, especially in light of enacting ways to comply with the Affordable Care Act. Wellness is here to stay.
