Your business’s success depends on your employees’ engagement and performance. Engaged employees are emotionally committed to your organization’s success and work harder to drive revenue. But how do you get them more engaged?

Offering development opportunities has been shown to increase employee engagement and retention. According to the 2018 Workplace Learning Report, 94% of employees would stay at a company longer if it invested in their career.

Of course, you need to make sure that it’s easy for your employees to find those development opportunities and training programs. Most organizations do this through a learning management system (LMS) or learning experience platform (LXP). However, it’s not enough to just upload some standard professional development training courses and call it a day.

By implementing certain strategies, you’ll increase learner engagement and LMS adoption, ultimately increasing your bottom line.

Here are 3 ways to get your learners engaged and active in your training program. These user adoption strategies can be implemented in any robust learning management system or platform.

    1. Deliver a User-Centric Dashboard

First impressions matter. When your learners log into your LMS, you want them to see relevant and personalized content immediately. This might include content assigned to them based on their role, new courses that are available, or what’s the most popular content across your organization. Most advanced systems will also recommend courses based on skills gaps and career goals.

Most learning management systems will allow you to brand your user dashboard with your company colors, logo, and maybe a custom header graphic. Take advantage of those features to create a learning destination for your employees that feels true to your organization.

    2. Leverage Enrollments to Increase Completions

The team behind the Rockstar Learning Platform analyzed user data to determine that there’s a nearly 80% increase in completion rates and view rates when users are enrolled in courses, versus making courses optional. Many learning systems, including the Rockstar Learning Platform, will send email and system notifications to users to remind them about courses they’re enrolled in. In the Rockstar Learning Platform, enrolled courses will also be featured on the user dashboard. These actions increase the likelihood that a learner will return to the learning platform and complete their training.

To increase operational efficiency, some organizations will also opt to automate enrollments. For example, when a new employee is added to your HR system, you can automate enrollment within an onboarding program. Or if you have required annual compliance training, you may want your LMS to automatically assign the course.

    3. Expand the Discussion to Include Your Users

Many learning platforms include features for rating content, social commentary and user discussions. Utilize whatever collaborative features your LMS has—it could be a Disqus comment system or Facebook comments plugin—to include your learners in discussions around course content. You can have your subject matter expert start off by posting questions to spark ideas, and then encourage your employees to respond with their thoughts. These discussions can also provide illuminating insight into what content is successfully engaging your learners and what isn’t.

Implementing these engagement strategies will get more employees actively involved with your training offerings. And as employee engagement goes up, so does productivity and revenue!
