SHRM is the Society of Human Resource Management; a non-profit membership organization. SHRM is well known for its cross country chapters and annual conferences and until recently its strong ties with HRCI. In 2014 SHRM distanced itself from HRCI as it created its own set of competencies based exams - the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Visit www.shrm.org for more information.
HRCI exams are held year round and applications can be submitted to www.hrci.org at any time. Application processing times are approximately two weeks and approved applicants may test two weeks thereafter. Applications are valid for 6 months (180 days), after which time the application becomes stale and void.
2nd chance insurance can only be purchased during the application process. Applicants are highly advised to consider this before beginning the application process as this cannot be added on after the initial exam payment. The cost of the insurance is non-refundable if an applicant passes the exam. If a test-taker does not pass their exam and needs to use the pre-paid insurance, they will then receive more instructions in their emailed final exam report (approximately two weeks after the exam). Test-takers testing on pre-paid insurance must wait 90 days before they can test again and the exam must be taken within 3 months.
Please visit the HRCI website for fees and application procedures. HRCI – www.hrci.org
Spring: May 1 – July 15
Winter: December 1 – February 15
There is a preset application window in which you can apply to sit for your exam. Please visit the SHRM website for respective testing dates, fees and application deadlines. SHRM – www.shrm.org/certification
