Question for Manufacturing w/ 12-hour rotating shifts - PTO usage at once

    Hello,
I work for a large manufacturing company and we have 12-hour rotating shifts for our hourly floor employees, (we are 24/7 operation). Recently there has been a big debate among our senior staff about PTO usage at one time for employees. Our current PTO policy does not state how much PTO one can take at one time. We have several employees who come from different countries around the world and often want to take anywhere from 3-6 weeks off at a time to visit their home countries.

For any of you who have the same type of employee population - do you have a maximum amount of time allowed away from work for employees using accrued PTO?  If you do, how did you come up with that number? If you don't, why not?

Thanks so much for your input - much appreciated!
    Michelle
