    Performance Evaluations

We are currently redesigning our performance evaluation program. We are trying to devise an evaluation that uses only performance indicators that can be measured. We have come up with some job specific measurables for some jobs but are having difficulty with others. How do you measure customer service? Dependability? Good judgment? Teamwork? We have decided on a three tier rating system: Exceeds, Meets, Does Not Meet.
Any help anyone can give us would be greatly appreciated. We have been working on this project since March!

    Hello,
In order to achieve this many organizations are moving to the use of behavioral indicators or competencies. This allows levels of performance to be more clearly defined. I completed a Reality HR Interview with Jennifer Preston, HR Director for Fairview Range Regional Health Service on this topic that you may find helpful.

    Sincerely,

Performance Evaluation is defined as a formal and productive procedure to measure an employee’s work and results based on their job responsibilities. It is used to gauge the amount of value added by an employee in terms of increased business revenue, in comparison to industry standards and overall employee return on investment (ROI).
All organizations that have learned the art of “winning from within” by focusing inward towards their employees, rely on a systematic performance evaluation process to measure and evaluate employee performance regularly. Ideally, employees are graded annually on their work anniversaries based on which they are either promoted or are given suitable distribution of salary raises. Performance evaluation also plays a direct role in providing periodic feedback to employees, such that they are more self-aware in terms of their performance metrics.
