Another year passes by and we see all Heads suddenly waking up to the annual appraisal process. The HR team is running around distributing appraisal forms which have by now regimentally instituted for notional compliance; ofcourse traditionally the process is delayed by line managers, as they are preoccupied with more important issues than appraisal. No one has the time to ask questions such as:-

Did I record consistently the specific instances indicative of underperformance or excelling the norms?
What metrics have I been using to assess the performance of my team-mates, else how are we quantifying their contribution?
Did I provide enough opportunity to the appraisee to express his/her difficulties and challenges, which he/she on his/her own could not counter?
Did I provide him/her sufficient guidance?
Did I sit with the appraisee and debate on issues of differences and try to convince what was in the interest of a win-win situation?
After all aren't we interested in raising the productivity/efficiency of our team mates so that we sustain ourselves in competition?
