Discrimination? Harassment?

Situation: You are the Assistant General Manager (AGM) for your organization. Recently, you and your General Manager had a confidential conversation with your Regional HR Manager (RHRM) about how to handle a "hair" issue with the Front Desk Manager (FDM). The manager is African-American, has short locs (was hired with those locs), and after being with the company for 5 short months (hired as a Sales Rep) was just promoted to FDM. Some think the way he wears his hair does not look good. You handle the situation and the employee ends up cutting all of his hair - he's now bald. You and the newly promoted FDM attend a District Meeting for AGMs and FDMs. The RHRM is covering how to handle certain "personnel" situations. She proceeds to discuss the specifics of the situation you shared with her in confidence. She even calls you out regarding the situation with the FDM sitting right there. EVERYONE is shocked. You are mortified because you did not want the FDM to know you had discussed the issue with anyone - he is a good employee and does his job well (hence the quick promotion)! You are embarrassed. You immediately notice how uncomfortable and humiliated the employee becomes. A few minutes later, the RHRM says to the employee (who she just met for the 2nd time that day) "You look bored. Are you OK?". What do you do? How do you move forward? What should the FDM do? How should he move forward? What should happen to the RHRM? Can't wait to hear your thoughts...

I think you made a mistake to share confidential information with that lady. Now, you should try to learn from your mistake and move on.
