    My company conducts criminal background checks on newhires prior to their start date. More and more we're hiring individuals who are on visas or lived outside of the USA for a number of years.

    I'd like feedback on how other companies in a similiar situtation handle this. Do you spend the extra time/money to conduct a criminal background check in other countries? Can you give me some examples of how long it took and what the costs were? How far back do you check for a criminal background, ie. 7 years?
