Bible Verse on company e-mail

We have an employee who uses a Bible verse below his name on all company e-mail. Our company does not have a policy addressing this particular item. How should I address this with the employee? Any comments or advise? Nancy

Since it is company email, you can let the employee know that proper etiquette is for the employee to have only name, title and contact information as his/her signature. That the bible verse is a personal message/thought and may or not be welcome by others, both employees and external contacts, or could be construed as approved by the company. You could also point out it may be considered "solicitation" and most companies have anti-solicitaion policies.

I agree. This is inappropriate. You need to create a company policy that states the employee is representing the company when they send out an email. They can only have their name and contact information.

This also applies to personal messages on an employees answering machine. I had one employee who at the the end of the recording said "Have a blessed day". Although this does not soundd bad. It is considered a religious expression and we asked he3r to change her message.
