    Hourly employees/unpaid premiums

    We are trying to come up with some policy recommendations and want to see what other companies do.

    At our company, we have a lot of hourly employees who work outside, and in the winter, are only able to work sporadically. With many of these employees now having health insurance, their premiums are piling up  as they are not getting the hours.

    Our thought is to set a limit on the max amount of unpaid premiums, then treat this as a reduction of hours, notify the insurance company to extend COBRA.

    Any thoughts on this? Would love to hear other options.
