    How to Use Copilot with PowerPoint to Create Slides


    I know we're more a Google Slides rather than Microsoft PowerPoint shop internally, but PPT is getting quite good at using AI to create slides, better than the comparable Gemini product for now. We work with a lot of PPTs on the webcast, research and layout teams, so I think it's worth learning how to use this capability.
    The image above is a slide that Copilot created given a wordy couple of paragraphs I fed it without even editing the verbiage. It boiled down the theme and provided a photo image that goes with the content. 
    This could potentially save webcast presentation makers a lot of time and effort. 
    Here's a short tutorial on how to use it:Step 1: Enable Copilot in PowerPoint
    1. Open PowerPoint on your desktop or in Microsoft 365.
    2. Look for the Copilot button in the toolbar (available in Microsoft 365 with Copilot access).
    3. Click Copilot to activate the AI-powered assistant.

    Step 2: Generate a Presentation from Scratch
    1. Click Copilot and type a prompt such as:
      "Create a presentation on the impact of AI in HR with five slides covering key trends, benefits, and challenges given the information I'm pasting below."
    2. Copilot will generate an initial slide deck with text, images, and layout suggestions.
    3. Review the slides and edit or refine the content using Copilot’s suggested improvements.

    Step 3: Enhance an Existing Presentation
    1. Open an existing PowerPoint file.
    2. Click Copilot and type:
      "Summarize this slide deck into key takeaways," or "Make this more visually engaging."
    3. Copilot will suggest design enhancements, reword key points, or create a summary slide.

    Step 4: Design and Format Slides
    1. Use Copilot to adjust slide design by typing:
      "Make this slide more professional," or "Use a modern theme."
    2. Copilot can suggest fonts, layouts, and color schemes to match your presentation’s tone.
    3. For specific slides, ask: "Rearrange this content into bullet points for clarity."

    Step 5: Generate Speaker Notes and Summaries
    1. Click on Copilot and request:
      "Generate speaker notes for this slide," or "Summarize this presentation into three key messages."
    2. Use the AI-generated notes to guide your presentation delivery.

    Step 6: Add Visuals and Icons
    1. Ask Copilot to insert relevant images:
      "Find a stock image for AI in HR."
    2. It can also suggest icons or graphs to represent data clearly.

    Final Tips:
    • Play Around: It pays to fool around with this capability until you learn to get what you want out of out. Practice makes perfect.
      Refine Content: Always review and tweak Copilot’s output to align with your exact needs.
    • Iterate Commands: If the first attempt isn’t perfect, try different prompts like "Make this slide more concise."
    • Use Smart Formatting: Copilot can help maintain a consistent style across slides.
