OD Network Announces 2023 Award Winners

The Organization Development (OD) Network, the leading global association of organization development practitioners and scholars, will recognize those who have made significant contributions to organization development and culture with the 2023 OD Network Awards. The recipients were recently honored at the 2023 International ODN Summit, June 11-14, 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

    Lifetime Achievement Award
OD Network members who have made a significant and lasting impact on the field and practice of organization development through their professional accomplishments are honored with the OD Network Lifetime Achievement Award. The recipient for this year is Dr. Bill Pasmore, PhD, Senior Vice President of the Organizational Leadership Practice at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) and a Visiting Professor at Columbia University.

Dr. Bill Pasmore joined CCL in January 2008, leading the effort to help clients develop the larger organizational leadership systems that increase their overall performance and enable their individual leaders to thrive. Before joining CCL, Dr. Pasmore had served since 1997 as a partner in the Corporate Learning & Organizational Development Practice of the consulting firm Oliver Wyman Delta. His global clients, spanning numerous business sectors, have included Bristol-Myers Squibb, Compuware, United Airlines, Hewlett Packard, Kimberly Clark, Unilever, and The New York Times. As a thought leader in the field of organization development, Dr. Pasmore has published 21 books and numerous articles, including The Board’s New Roles in Succession Planning, How to Make Sure Your Next CEO is a Winner, Choosing the Best Next CEO, Designing Effective Organizations, Creating Strategic Change, Research in Organization Change and Development, and Relationships that Enable Enterprise Change.

Organizational Excellence and Impact in OD Award
Every year OD Network recognizes and honors organizations that have demonstrated a sustained commitment to organization development and organization effectiveness within their own operating practices. The 2023 Organizational Excellence and Impact in OD Award goes to ‘Do OD’, NHS UK Healthcare System.

‘DO OD’  is a large-scale intervention in the National Health Service (NHS) of England which enables the OD community to support the development of organizations and systems as highly skilled practitioners whilst also making a positive impact on patient care.  It has been led, since its inception, by Karen Dumain with the OD community and for the OD community.  Its purpose is to ensure that the ambitions and actions of the NHS People Plan are at the heart of the community’s work. Do OD has a proven record of more than a decade of success in ensuring that OD practitioners take a systems approach to their work, demonstrating their values of curiosity, creativity, courage, and co-production, whilst also raising their ambition and deepening their practice as OD professionals. Their core aim is expressed in their watchword: ‘Know OD, Be OD, Do OD.”

Service to the OD Network Award
This award was established in honor of Fred A. Miller and recognizes OD practitioners whose service to the OD Network, over an extended period, has strengthened or enhanced the Network resulting in an increase of the Network’s credibility and impact. The 2023 recipient of the Service to the OD Network Award is David Jamieson, PhD.

David Jamieson, PhD is President of the Jamieson Consulting Group, Inc. (providing consultation, leader coaching, development & speaking). He is also an Executive Fellow, and Retired Professor, Organization Development & Change at the University of St. Thomas, and a Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 4 other graduate OD programs. He has over 50 years of experience consulting to organizations on leadership, change, strategy, design, and human resource issues. He is editor-in-chief of the OD Review and associate editor of the Journal of Management Inquiry and serves on the editorial review boards for Journal of Applied Behavioral Sciences and Journal of Organization Change Management. Dr. Jamieson has always been dedicated to the scholar practitioner role and focused on advancing our understanding of organizations, change, and masterful consultation.

Evolving OD by Connecting People and Ideas
This award was established in honor of Lisa Kimball to acknowledge individuals who, like Lisa, are life-long connectors, integrators, and master networkers of people, ideas, and technologies. Lisa had a substantial impact on the field of OD because, in very real and tangible ways, she created powerful connections between people and ideas, often testing new technological tools and methods. The 2023 recipient of the Evolving to the OD Network Award is Ku'ulani Keohokalole.

Kuʻulani Keohokalole (she/her/ʻo ia) established People Strategies Hawaiʻi in 2019 with the vision of growing the capacity of organizations to foster community-minded and people-oriented leaders. She trains, consults, and supports organizations across sectors and industries who are looking to transform around the ways they engage people to achieve their mission. Kuʻulani received the distinctions of Pacific Business News’s “40 Under 40” in 2020 and Hawaiʻi Business Magazine’s “20 People To Watch for the Next 20 Years” in 2023. She is a sought-after speaker on topics of diversity, equity and inclusion, Hawaiian values, organizational culture and leadership, speaking for the Hawaiʻi Business Magazine Wahine Forum & Leadership Conference, and the YWCA, among others. Kuʻulani holds a B.A. in Ethnic Studies and Women’s Studies from UH Mānoa, an M.A. in Education Leadership, Politics and Advocacy from NYU, and an Executive Certificate in Organizational Consulting & Change Leadership from Georgetown University. She is a faculty lecturer for a new course entitled, “ES 496: Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion In the Workplace” at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

    Elevating Humanity Award
This award is reserved for practitioners who lead large scale change movements that transform trans-organizational and geopolitical systems for the sake of raising urgent attention to humanitarian crises, presenting practical solutions, and having a widespread measurable impact and following. These individuals do not need to formally refer to themselves as OD consultants or champions, but rather, demonstrate that they are carrying out the primary characteristics of sound OD: inclusive, values-driven dialogue that focuses on sensing the future that yearns to emerge from a place of the heart as well as the head and hands.  The 2023 recipient of the Elevating Humanity Award is David Cooperrider, PhD.

David Cooperrider, PhD has served as advisor to prominent leaders in business and society, including projects with five Presidents and/or Nobel Laureates such as William Jefferson Clinton, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Kofi Annan, and Jimmy Carter. David advises a wide variety of corporations including Apple, Johnson & Johnson, Keurig Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Verizon, Hunter Douglas, Cleveland Clinic, National Grid, Smuckers, Clarke, Fairmount Minerals, McKinsey, Parker, Dealer Tire, Webasto, and Wal-Mart as well as the Navy, Red Cross, United Way of America, USAID, United Nations, the Global Compact, and hundreds of international private voluntary organizations (the GEM project.) David is also a founding Board Member of the International Association of Positive Psychology, the Taos Institute, and a Fellow of the World Business Academy. Early in the growth of the UN Global Compact David was called upon by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to facilitate (using Appreciative Inquiry) the largest summit in history between business CEOs and leaders of government and civil society.
