GOOGLE ANNOUNCES FREE WORKFORCE TECH TRAINING FOR ALL U.S. BUSINESSES, NEW DIGITAL MARKETING CERTIFICATE
    Press Releases
Today, Grow with Google and U.S. Small Business Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman announced Google will give every U.S. business up to 500 Google Career Certificate scholarships to help upskill their employees through any of Google’s Career Certificates, a commitment worth up to $100,000 in workforce training for every American company.

Google is also launching a new Career Certificate in Digital Marketing and E-commerce to help jobseekers and companies acquire skills to succeed in online business. Launched in 2018, Google Career Certificates are available in the high-growth fields of data analytics, IT support, project management, user experience (UX) design and now e-commerce and digital marketing. The certificates do not require a degree or experience and can be completed within 3-6 months of part-time study.

Three out of four U.S. small-and-medium sized businesses—including the majority of Black and Latino businesses—report that using digital tools during the pandemic created new business opportunities. While most business leaders project digital commerce will be the main source of business growth over the next two years, nearly half of small businesses still lack the skills needed to use digital tools. Google’s new workforce initiatives aim to create economic opportunity by helping businesses upskill talent, grow online and create jobs in the growing fields of digital marketing and e-commerce.

“Technology continues to drive economic growth and job opportunities. It’s essential that both jobseekers and companies have access to the skills needed to grow an online presence and unlock new areas of economic potential,” said Lisa Gevelber, Founder, Grow with Google. “Google is thrilled to help through our Digital Marketing and E-commerce Certificate and our commitment to enable every American business to upskill their employees at no cost.”

Endorsed by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s), the Google Digital Marketing and E-commerce Certificate was designed by experts at Google with input from leading e-commerce companies. The certificate will train jobseekers in how to find customers online, sell products or services and do marketing analytics and measurement. Learners will also get hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and platforms including Canva, Constant Contact, Hootsuite, HubSpot, MailChimp, Shopify, Twitter, Google Ads and Google Analytics. To connect graduates to jobs, the program offers access to an employer consortium of over 150 companies—including Crate & Barrel, Infosys, Verizon, Walmart, Wayfair and Google—committed to considering them for relevant entry-level roles.

Google developed Career Certificates to support skilling in high-demand fields. Available on Coursera, over 70,000 people have graduated from the program in the U.S., with 75% of them reporting a positive career impact, such as a new job, higher pay, or a promotion, within six months of completion. Fifty-five percent of graduates identify as Asian, Black, or Latino.

In February 2022, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced a $100 million fund to enable 20,000 Americans to access the Google Career Certificates with wraparound services like professional coaching, interview prep, job placement assistance and living stipends. The fund is projected to drive more than $1 billion in aggregate wage gains.
