New role prioritizes need for continued employee support
Houston: GHD welcomes Mary Zwick as Global Wellbeing Leader responsible for developing, promoting and embedding a culture supportive of employee wellbeing. Mary will be pivotal in supporting GHD’s wellbeing strategy as its 10,000 strong workforce shifts back to office environments, leveraging the human and social connection that workplaces provide.
“The pandemic has shown how important it is for employers to support the personal and professional wellbeing of our people,” says Jan Sipsma, chief people officer. “This senior role reflects the importance GHD puts on wellbeing to help our employees better manage their physical and mental health. Mary has the experience and drive to lead the evolution of our program as we take the next steps towards helping our employees manage their work-life balance.”
GHD formally launched its wellbeing program in 2020 to support employees through the pandemic. In this newly created position, Mary will integrate wellbeing into the business culture by supporting employees and ultimately creating a culture that instinctively fosters employee wellbeing.
According to Mary, “While we each hold personal responsibility for our own work-life balance, protecting and promoting the wellbeing of our people is crucial for achieving organizational success. Creating a culture that empowers our people to actively engage in their wellbeing establishes a sustainable system that prioritizes long-term health and productivity. Prioritizing wellbeing will have a positive return on the organization’s performance, labor-related costs, and output — including innovation, client experience, and quality of our products and services.”
Sipsma added, “We’re much more creative when we’re socially connected. Incorporating employee wellbeing support will be an essential ingredient to successfully returning to office environments and to creating and re-establishing in-person relationships.”
Mary holds a BS degree in psychology from Texas A&M and a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. She was previously wellbeing manager at healthcare company EHE Health.
