Innovation, digitization and representation among economic growth themes explored at 2021 Supply Chain Week event: May 10 to May 14, 2021
Hundreds of western Canada’s top employers and industry leaders working in the supply chain sector are gathering virtually this week to share inspiring stories, and to identify economic challenges and opportunities ahead.
“The pandemic has reminded us all that a resilient supply chain is critical to providing essential goods. New technology, consumer and investor expectations have shown us that a responsive and responsible supply chain is essential to economic growth,” said Nicole Burgess, Executive Director & CEO of Supply Chain Canada Saskatchewan Institute, on behalf of the four western Canadian Supply Chain Canada Western Institutes.
The supply chain industry includes those responsible for the movement of goods through the economy, along a complex network between producers, suppliers, distributors, transportation and logistics operators, to the doorstep of the final customer.
The group is hosting a week-long series of virtual events aimed at celebrating the people working in the supply chain industry and providing learning and networking opportunities. Industry representatives are expected to participate in a range of sessions to share experiences and examine influences shaping the future of the industry. Sessions will touch on sustainability and the zero-emission transition, applied machine learning case study, port authority insights, women in supply chain, diversity and inclusion in the sector, and industry risk profiles beyond the pandemic.
Burgess says Canada’s supply chain underpins the movement of $1 trillion of goods through our economy and employs more than 900,000 Canadians.
“Every step of the supply chain is powered by essential people and offers opportunities for growth through efficiency and investment. We’re excited to hear from them this week, and to apply their learning and expertise in the years ahead.”
