While e-learning has steadily gained hold due to COVID-19, it could grow even further as 82% of HR and training professionals plan to start producing more e-learning in the next 3 months
BRIGHTON, UK (August 13, 2020) - Elucidat, an award-winning e-learning authoring platform for big employers, today released the results of a survey analyzing corporate Learning & Development (L&D) trends in 2020. According to the survey, 97% of leaders across training, L&D and HR departments plan to start producing more e-learning materials in the next 6 months with the majority of respondents (82%) aiming for within the next 3 months. The survey also finds only 12% of organizations plan to fully revert to previous levels of face-to-face training.
These findings are supported by data from other recent L&D research reports. A recent LinkedIn Learning report found a 159% increase in CEOs championing L&D in their companies, with employees spending 130% more time learning during the pandemic. Another report from Gallup showed that employee engagement overall reached a historic high in May 2020, providing the perfect opportunity for L&D departments to roll out new training programs.
While recent data shows a renewed focus on L&D initiatives, it comes at a time of belt-tightening for organizations when it comes to budget allocated to employee training. Eighty-six percent of respondents to Elucidat’s survey expect their training budget to either be reduced or remain stagnant over the next 12 months, with just under half (45%) anticipating a reduction. Of those respondents who expect their training budget to be reduced, 45% expect it to be deep cuts of 20% or more. With these expected budget cuts, L&D leaders are looking to online training options to save money while ensuring they’re able to deliver business-critical training to support employees and ensure compliance.
“While the move from face-to-face to online training will continue its upward trend in the face of COVID-19 and ongoing budget concerns, we can also expect to see more sustainable training strategies that are increasingly agile and focused on genuine business impact,” said Simon Greany, founder and chief product officer at Elucidat. “We are committed to helping build more successful and ethical businesses through people-centered learning while allowing organizations to drive down the cost of business-critical training. Our research shows that more than half of L&D leaders expect online learning to be more cost effective than traditional face-to-face training, with nearly a quarter foreseeing savings of 25% or more.”
Elucidat conducted its global Trends in Training survey from June 22nd - July 14, 2020.
