Physicians-in-training and other health profession students are encouraged to submit essays before the December 5 contest deadline
Chicago – AMA Insurance Agency has announced the launch of the 2019 AMA Insurance Global Health Challenge—an essay and video contest giving a team of physicians-in-training and students of other health care professions an opportunity to travel abroad to help underserved communities. The winning team will work alongside Timmy Global Health to care for populations in Ecuador, Guatemala, or the Dominican Republic.
“We are honored to partner with Timmy Global Health again to offer students and residents a life-changing global health experience,” says Pamela Moy, AMA Insurance president. “We know that it takes ongoing dedication and work in the global community to make a positive impact. We are privileged to support the young medical professionals who offer their time, energy, passion and expertise to help improve the world’s communities every year.”
The AMA Insurance Global Health Challenge invites teams of at least two and up to five pre-medical and medical students, residents and students in allied health fields to submit an essay of 500 words or less answering the question: “What are ways US volunteers can add value to local partners and health systems during and after their service?” The deadline for essay submissions is December 5. Complete details can be found at

Following essay submission, a panel of judges will then select up to ten teams who will be asked to create and submit a video for posting on the contest website as part of the final round of the challenge. The winning team will be announced in the spring of 2020.
“Timmy is thrilled to partner again this year on the AMA Insurance Global Health Challenge,” says Timmy Global Health’s Executive Director, Nick Reich. “Timmy’s mission is to build a healthier world through a community of global leaders. Continuing to build and grow this community, through partnerships like this one, connects us with each other in unique ways that makes the world feel a bit smaller and more connected.”
The AMA Insurance Global Health Challenge was established in 2010 by the AMA Insurance Agency Med Plus Advantage Program. Since partnering with Timmy, AMA Insurance has sent fourteen students from seven different schools to help communities that Timmy serves.
