As someone who used to process payroll for a small credit union I have a new found respect for payroll professionals, it’s a highly detail-oriented role (obviously) and can be very stressful.
Not only do payroll professionals simply process your paycheck weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly they are often called upon to provide various reports. Record keeping and retention are huge when it comes to the changes made to someone’s salary. For those that change their tax withholding guess what, someone has to process those changes and then some. Let’s not even get started about what all goes into commissions, bonuses, and the oh so fun end of the year for W2 processing.
So the next time you want to be a bug a boo to your payroll team, try to think of all the things they have to stay on top of and be a little patient and professional in your requests.
