Varvid and Representative Larsen had a lively discussion about the future of live streaming technology and development of the workforce of tomorrow
Varvid, the connected event and live streaming video production company, welcomed Congressman Rick Larsen (WA-02) to its Bellingham headquarters to discuss workforce development issues and the future of live streaming technology on Wednesday October 24.
“Our industry – online video and streaming content – has seen explosive growth over the last several years,” said Aaron Booker, founder of Varvid. “This has brought with it exciting opportunities but also several challenges, one of which has been finding employees with the right skills. Our workforce is our lifeblood, and our business benefits greatly from the support our congressional delegation provides in the region to help develop that pool of talent.”
Congressman Larsen brings to this visit a strong interest in advancing small businesses throughout Northwest Washington, and in helping develop a robust workforce. “Connecting young people with skills they need to compete in the workforce is critical to a strong economic foundation,” said Larsen. “Washington State continues to be a leader in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). With increased access to online training, and through apprenticeships, companies like Varvid can help young people learn new skills to access innovative in-demand jobs.”
Founded in 2002, Varvid has developed an impressive roster of clients, working on projects with well-known Washington-based organizations like Microsoft, XBox, Adobe, Wizards of the Coast and the Tulalip Tribes; to other West Coast powerhouses like Cisco, Intel, and Lucasfilm; to a range of other names such as Harvard University, Nike, Billboard.com, LiveNation, Red Bull, Pandora, BMW USA, Hasbro and Xerox.
“I started as an intern at Varvid in 2010 after finishing my undergraduate degree at Western Washington University,” said Richard McLean, president and creative director of Varvid. “This company continues to offer incredible opportunities to work with big name clients across the country and I’m happy to be working in a rapidly changing industry where I’m constantly learning how to use the latest media technologies to connect people online.”
Live streaming requires a complex blend of artistic skills and technical expertise that is challenging to find in a workforce. “We appreciate the efforts of Congressman Larsen and our congressional delegation to support us in developing the workforce of the future,” added McLean.
Varvid connects event attendees with remote audiences all over the country for businesses and brands using live streaming video, photography and technology. They are headquartered in Bellingham, Wash. with production crews in Seattle; Los Angeles; Dallas and Austin, Texas; New Orleans; and Boston. The company professionally streams events live to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Twitch.tv, to custom-built web pages, or to all of them simultaneously.
