In The Art of Servant Leadership II, Art Barter lifts the curtain on the turnaround at Datron World Communications through servant leadership.

In November of 2016, Datron announced a record contract in the amount of $495 million dollars. Datron is a manufacturer of radio communications equipment for military and security personnel, with customers around the world.

"People often ask me, 'Isn’t servant leadership soft?' My response is that servant leadership is the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do as a leader,” said Barter.

"Many years ago, one of our customers asked us to backdate some documents on a procurement process, and we said, 'No, we won’t do that.' I told my team to get on a plane and come home. We walked away from a $6-million deal."

"Interestingly, eight years later that customer came back to us and asked us to take the lead on a $12-million program because of our integrity. They knew they could trust us. You have to live what you believe in, and you can’t loosen your values just to get business."
