    5 ways to help your employees during Ramadan


    During Ramadan, Muslims continue working and fasting which may result in fatigue and affect their concentration in the work. To help make your office ’fasting friendly’, here are some ways in which you could help your employees during Ramadan.
    • During the month of Ramadan, Muslim employees may pray more often. It may take only a few minutes. Which is why it would be nice if you could allocate a quiet place in your office where the employees can pray and can have room schedule-wise to themselves and reflect on their faith. Along with that, it is very important to enlighten the other non-Muslim employees of the situation and they should regard the decision of the Muslim employees and permit them their solitude amid this time

     
    • Observing Muslims would fast for a long period of time, about 16 to 18 hours. In this case, working during the regular office hours becomes quite difficult and it may also hamper their health. In order to make it easier for them, you can implement temporary flexible working schedule during Ramadan. This could involve providing some time to rest and pray, flexible schedule, maybe even decreasing the workload.

     
    • Muslim employees may ask for leave for a total of 10 days towards Eid. It is wise to keep in mind that all it takes is foreseeing the solicitations ahead of time so regular workloads are manageable. You could use HR software to manage this within your organisation

     
    • It would be nice to make the office environment fasting friendly for Muslim employees. You could try to make everybody mindful about the month of Ramadan in your office. It would help provide some understanding towards fasting Muslims and their needs.

     
    Keep in mind though that you should never assume that you know what the Muslim employees want while they are fasting. They may not want a different place for breaking their fast or a place to pray. There are some Muslims who do not fast during the month of Ramadan. That is why it is imperative to organize a meeting with the Muslim employees beforehand and discuss their needs and what arrangements suit them the best and don’t forget to say “happy Ramadan!”
