Three Ontario teachers recognized for excellence
    Press Releases
OTIP (the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan) and the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) have recognized three outstanding Ontario teachers with the OTIP Teaching Award for excellence.

On Tuesday, September 26, the following educators received the OTIP Teaching Award:

Colleen Shaw, North Bendale Junior PS, Toronto - Beginning Teacher Category
Helen Wolfe, Nelson Mandela Park PS, Toronto – Elementary Teacher Category
Victor Barker, Port Colborne SS, Port Colborne - Secondary Teacher Category

“It gives us great pleasure to recognize these three exceptional leaders in the education community,” said Vic Medland, CEO of OTIP. “We are inspired by their innovation and their continued desire to ensure each and every student reaches their maximum potential.”

“OTF is proud of these winners who represent the excellence of teachers in our publicly funded schools,” stated Chris Cowley, OTF President. “They are an example of the teachers who are in our classrooms every day ensuring that our students receive a quality education.”

OTIP and OTF co-sponsor the OTIP Teaching Awards for excellence in teaching in the publicly funded school system. Three awards are presented: secondary school teacher, elementary school teacher and beginning teacher. Anyone can nominate a teacher in Ontario’s publicly funded schools, including public, Catholic, and francophone school boards.

More information on the awards can be found at teachingawards.ca.

As well, Groupe Média TFO presented the Prix IDÉLLO to Gaëlle Dussault-Bacon, École élémentaire catholique Horizon-Jeunesse, Ottawa.

About OTIP: Creating Insured Members for Life. At OTIP (www.otip.com), we not only understand the education system, we believe in it. OTIP has been committed to providing quality insurance benefits and advice for the best value since 1977. Across all lines of insurance, OTIP provides coverage to over 160,000 education employees in the province. Owned by Ontario’s four education affiliates (AEFO, ETFO, OECTA and OSSTF) and directed by a Board of Trustees, OTIP was built on the belief that educators would be better served by a not-for-profit insurance advocate that was part of the education community. This remains our philosophy today.

The Ontario Teachers’ Federation (www.otffeo.on.ca) is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000 teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all publicly-funded schools in the province – elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and francophone.
