Twelve finalists will win flights and accommodations to Toronto to compete for $10,000  

TORONTO, ON (October 17, 2017) - If you run a business and are attending a Canadian university or college full time, or you know someone who is, now’s the time to submit your nomination for the Enactus Student Entrepreneur National Competition, proudly presented by the John Dobson Foundation.

Twelve finalists will win flights and accommodations to attend the 2018 Enactus Canada National Exposition May 14-16 in Toronto to pitch their business and compete for the $10,000 grand prize. The Student Entrepreneur National Runner-Up will receive $4,000, and the Second Runner-Up will receive a $2,000 cash prize.

“This is an incredible opportunity for student entrepreneurs to gain exposure for their businesses,” says Nicole Almond, president of Enactus Canada. “Entrepreneurs are the foundation of this country and Enactus Canada is proud to support young, hardworking students who are creating new jobs and working together to advance the Canadian economy.”

The Student Entrepreneur National Competition aims to help young business leaders network with like-minded students, showcase their venture to top executives and entrepreneurs, and accelerate the growth of their businesses.  

Past competition winners include successful entrepreneurs, Jen Ger of Foxy Originals, a jewellery company, and Alex MacLean, founder of EastCoast Lifestyle, a clothing and lifestyle brand.  

Amr Abdelgawad, owner of NERv Technology Inc. and student at the University of Waterloo was named 2017 Student Entrepreneur National Champion. Nominations, including self-nominations, will be accepted at enactus.ca/what-we-do/nominate-a-student-entrepreneur until Thursday, November 23, 2017.

The Student Entrepreneur National Champion will receive a $10,000 cash prize and the John Dobson Cup. To be eligible for the award, students and their businesses must meet the following criteria:
Be a full time undergraduate and/or graduate student at a Canadian university or college for the current academic year Be a founder and have at least 25% ownership of the company with no other individual or group with greater ownership, and be the individual primarily responsible for the business’ operation Have been in business for at least the past six months Have not been a previous National Champion of this competition or competed in the final round of the Student Entrepreneur National Competition during the previous school year
