    Strong jobs numbers mean companies will need innovative approaches to hiring


    Rebecca Henderson, CEO of global human resource provider Randstad Sourceright, released the following statement today in response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) July jobs report:

    “This month’s jobs report shows just how innovative and creative large U.S. employers now need to be to build a talent pipeline and fuel their growth.

    “In the last month alone, Google has pledged $50 million to nonprofits that retrain workers in new skills, Amazon hosted a job fair to try and fill more than 50,000 positions in a single day and Microsoft invested $25 million in a program to help American workers adapt to the changes in the workplace.

    “While automation may continue to grow in the workplace, so too does the scarcity of talent, which is driving new approaches and big investments to fill jobs.”

    Talent scarcity: 34 percent of U.S. companies recently surveyed by Randstad Sourceright said that talent scarcity remains their biggest concern.


    Automated jobs: the number of U.S. companies that increased their use of artificial intelligence (AI)/robotics over the last twelve months jumped from 18 percent in 2016 to 36 percent in 2017.


    Business outlook:
    26 percent of companies reported that their growth in the past 12 months surpassed expectations, markedly higher than the 20 percent that reported such in 2016.


    The freelance economy: 70 percent say that freelancers are influencing their business, while 50 percent say the freelance economy is driving growth.
