    What Happens When Limited Paid Leave Policies Leave People Behind


    You may have seen that the Trump administration budget includes a paid parental leave benefit (six weeks, only to care for newborn or adopted children, without new funding, through state unemployment insurance cuts). This is certainly an occasion to mark in the long-term fight for national paid leave but this policy clearly falls far short – and it does so through devastating cuts and new eligibility restrictions to programs like Medicaid, SNAP, EITC, CTC, disability and others that serve women, working families, and vulnerable populations.

    This creates an important teachable moment to showcase who is excluded from insufficient paid leave plans – and why we need a national, workable, comprehensive, responsible standard like the FAMILY Act. Last week, the National Partnership for Women & Families released a new video called Time To Care.
