ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) MARCH 28, 2017
The IT industry added 10,300 jobs in February, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, March 10, 2017.
“Collectively, the sectors that form the IT industry grew slightly in February over January,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “This is despite some job losses in Computer Manufacturing and Data Processing. Employment gains went from 8,500 in January, to 10,300 jobs last month.”
The multiple sectors that form the IT industry now sit at 4,797,800 employed persons. The industry includes data collected from the Data Processing, Hosting and Related Services subsector, the Computer Electronic Product Manufacturing subsector, the Computer Systems Design and Related Services subsector, and the Management and Technical Consulting Services subsector.
The Computer Electronic Manufacturing subsector lost 800 jobs in February after having lost 3,200 jobs in January. The subsector now employs 1,035,400 with an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent. “Over the last year, the computer manufacturing subsector has steadily lost jobs every month. Since February 2016, the subsector has lost 19,100 jobs at an average of 1,500 a month,” said Rollins.
Employment in Data Processing and Hosting dropped by 700 jobs in February. Over the past 12 months, the Data Processing and Hosting sector has gained only 2,700 jobs.
