February Job Cut Report Due Thursday, March 9
The New Year started with an increase in corporate downsizing, as the nation’s employers announced plans to cut payrolls by 45,934 in January, up 37 percent from December 2016, when planned layoffs totaled 33,627. While last month’s tally was the highest since last April (64,141), it was 39 percent lower than January 2016, when employers announced plans to eliminate 75,114 jobs from their ranks. The report on February job cuts will be released by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. on Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 a.m. ET.

February CEO Report Due Wednesday, March 15
Turnover among the nation’s chief executive officers surged in January as 128 CEOs left their posts during the month, 29 percent more than the 99 CEOs who left at the end of 2016. The January total was 2 percent lower than the same month a year ago, when 131 CEOs announced their departures. Last January marked a 24-month high for CEO departures; in January 2014, the same number of CEOs left their posts. The Challenger report on February CEO turnover will be released Wednesday, March 15, at 10:00 a.m. ET.
