Leading Insurance Career Site, InsuranceJobs.com Shares Insurance Employment Trends from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report

The number of jobs in the insurance industry doubled in October, jumping to 7,700 jobs last month from 2,300 jobs reported in September, according to preliminary numbers revealed in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report released on Friday, November 4, 2016.

“Seasonally adjusted, the insurance industry increased by 0.29 percent last month, the largest increase we’ve seen in 12 months” said Jay Rollins, owner of InsuranceJobs.com, an employment website targeted at insurance professionals. “Similarly, our job boards saw a steady increase in the number of available job postings all month, with particular focus on claims jobs on the east coast.”

According to the BLS report, the insurance carriers and related activities subsector now employs 2,621,400 persons, with an unemployment rate of 1.5 percent. “Last month’s unemployment was the lowest rate of the past 12 months,” said Rollins. “The last time the insurance sector reached 1.5 percent was May 2015. Instead, the insurance industry’s unemployed rate has averaged 2.6 percent over the past year.”

Since the beginning of the year, the insurance industry has gained 44,000 jobs while the unemployment rate has dropped 0.6 percent from 2.1 in January.
