VANCOUVER—On Thursday, July 28, the Fraser Institute will release a new essay examining how electoral rules influence government policy, particularly government spending.

The federal government is committed to changing Canada’s electoral system in time for the next election. The essay, Electoral Rules and Fiscal Policy Outcomes, looks at other countries, spotlighting the relationship between different electoral systems and fiscal balance (deficits/surpluses).
