    Talent acquisition and recruitment processes cost companies a lot of money. Beating competition and being the best performing company within an industry is one of the biggest targets of many businesses. It is also a great motivator for many employers and you end up pushingyour employees to greater strides for you to hit the bull’s eye.

    Employing the right talent is an essential ingredient for you to succeed and beat your competition. Poaching is always a run-to option and you may benefit or lose from talent poaching. To avoid being sucked into the game while operating within the set business budget, the following strategies may be employed:

    1.       Nurturing internal employees
    The best place for you to snag the best talent is right under your nose, literally. The individuals working in your business’s different departments that promise the highest yields are the ones you pass by daily. Nurture their expertise for you to beat the competition.

    Rising and beating your competition involves working harder and utilizing specific strategies that will put you at the same or a higher level with the competition. With a few training sessions and repackaging of skills, your current employees will be able to take your business to the expected levels. You should know that most of your employees are willing to learn and will prove themselves when given the chance.

    2.       Create healthy competition
    Head hunting and poaching your competitor’s best talent could create feuds and unhealthy competition when done wrong. Your competitor may retaliate by taking all your best, nurtured talent. This could run the organization into debt as a result of going over set budgets to hire replacements and the loss of clients due to low productivity of your business.

    Winning your competitor’s best talent and your perfect fit should be thrilling and fun. However, it shouldn’t get to the point of you offering what you can’t offer leading to over-run budgets.

    3.       Due diligence
    Thorough evaluation of the process and the potential employee(s) should be done. You could run into a snug if the direct responsibilities of the individual are not thought through. If hiring will be a liability in business later on, the poaching process should be abandoned.

    This research will also guide in the transition path to be used. Talent acquisition departments can determine if the post-poaching transition will be efficient and within the planned guidelines.

    4.       Clarify issues to avoid contention
    When approaching a possible talent, you should use simple tactics that will not pressure the individual. Give them the option to decide if they wish to take the offer or not. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be persuasive. A business that is goingunder as a result of debt will almost naturally poach the competitor’s best talent. You should be reasonable and honest. Otherwise, your potential employee will freak out turning down your offer. A rush may impair their decision making skills, eventually losing them.

    5.       Necessity of the step
    Besides it being a thrilling event to poach your competitor’s big-head, it may not be all that necessary to have that new face in your department. Your company’s reputation will be destroyed if you frequently poach talent for the thrill. New and necessary talent may be lost as a result of your unnecessary habits. Therefore, you must substantiate the necessity for the successfully poached individual.

    The success of your business is dependent on your business marketing strategies, commitment of your employees, your business culture and the edginess of your products. A high ROI is not guaranteed by a new talent from a competitor if they will get into a lackluster culture that doesn’t motivate them. Ensure that your employees are motivated beyond their salaries/wages, skilled in the specific line of business operations and trained from periodically. This will increase your business’s productivity.
