    Cloud-Based Management Tool Helps Eliminate Paperwork and Saves Restaurateurs Time with a Menu of Operational Modules


    Long Beach, Calif.—(April 25, 2016)— With shows like Restaurant Start-up and Hell’s Kitchen, it seems like everyone wants to be restaurateur.  What’s often thought of as a creative profession is actually one that is steeped in paperwork – lots of paperwork.

    Enter Better Chains, a company founded by two successful restaurateurs that offers cloud-based digital products designed to help restaurant owners manage human resources and operations more efficiently.

    “The restaurant business is an industry that has a large employee turnover,” said Sagi Rochman, co-founder of Better Chains.  “As a result, our files were filled with hundreds of pages of employee records.  I found it to be overwhelming and, quite frankly, unnecessary in this age of technology.”

    So Rochman, along with Marty Cox, founder of It’s A Grind coffeehouses, filled a void that they felt was lacking in the industry.  Better Chains is a cloud-based technology company offering an array of digital product—or modules—designed to help restaurant owners manage various aspects of the business, such as hiring new employees, scheduling staff, keeping precise records and training manuals.  Files are stored in the “cloud” and accessed via smart phone, tablet, laptop or computer.

    “The beauty of Better Chains is that there is no paperwork,” added Rochman.  “Files and forms are accessed with the swipe of a finger.  It’s saves time and money while eliminating the need for paperwork.  Plus, restaurateurs can purchase an individual module or an entire suite of modules with no long-term contracts. “

    Rochman added that Better Chains has a high client retention rate with  many restaurateurs adding additional modules to their existing package after just a few month.

    “We just want to run our restaurants,” said Kerstin Kasteiner, owner of two successful restaurants and Better Chains client.  “My skill set isn’t human resources it’s in creating an excellent dining experience for my guests.”  

    She said Better Chains’ technology has been essential in keeping records, from tracking employees’ mandated meal breaks to having food handlers’ certificates on file.

    “The beauty of it is that the office is with me at all times,” added Kasteiner.  “All you need is a smart phone or tablet.  I’ve been able to check on my restaurants while visiting family in Germany.  In the old days, which really wasn’t all that long ago, I needed to be in the office to access such files or schlep them with me. Those days are gone.”  

    One example of Better Chains’ capabilities is filling shifts.  Managers no longer need to spend hours calling employees and asking them to take on extra hours. Instead, a detailed mass email and text message is sent to all staff announcing an open shift.  Better Chains software ensures that whoever fills the shift is qualified and lets managers know if a given employee will earn overtime pay if they take on the extra hours.  Other modules include online training, menu engineering, applicant tracking systems and screenings, digital forms and checklists, and food quality, just to name a few.

    For less than the cost of a latte per day, business owners can subscribe to a suite of modules or select individual modules according to their specific needs. There are no long-term contracts, and services can be cancelled at any time.
