    Why Human Resources Should Be the Heart of Your Organization (But Isn’t)


    Companies are not run by products or the CEO. They are run by the people who are dealing with day-to-day operations. Without these individuals helping your company along, you are lost. That’s where human resources come in. They ensure that everything runs smoothly and everyone is happy.

    A well-run human resources department does everything from updating the board on the state of the work staff to reviewing complaints and dealing with disciplinary procedures. It can make sure your organization succeeds. But why aren’t you using it to its fullest potential?

    Petty and Annoying

    For this section, you are going to imagine the best sonic toothbrush. As a product, it works wonderfully. You can pick it up and give your teeth a white sheen within minutes. Yet what if that same product took five minutes to boot up and then you had to charge it for ten minutes afterwards to set it up for the next clean?

    This is what dealing with human resources can be like. A company has the capacity to run efficiently, but it can’t. The human resources department is too busy enforcing petty regulations, conducting unnecessary meetings, and generally just annoying the workforce.

    Talk to practically anyone who works in an office and they will have little good to say about human resources. Ditch the petty regulations and let everyone do what they do best.

    Not a Conduit

    Human resources should act as a connection between the very top and the managers on the ground. This is what allows information to filter in both directions. Many businesspeople make the mistake of classifying it as a separate department entirely. It runs autonomously and isn’t fully integrated into the rest of the company.

    It should be acting as a conduit and you should be in regular contact. Designate one person who will be responsible for passing information back and forth. Encourage collaboration and ensure it’s connected to every part of your company.

    No Way to Identify

    One of the biggest criticisms leveled at human resources is that the people working there have no idea what things are really like. There’s nothing more infuriating than the average worker receiving advice on how to do their job from some pencil pusher who has never done anything else.

    Workers find that they can’t identify with the department, and so resentment grows. Organizations that have great relationships do so because the normal worker respects the people above them. And that comes from being able to relate.

    Make sure your human resources department consists of experts who understand the job and what it entails. It will also ensure that you get a superior performance.

    Reviewing Human Resources

    Inspecting how your human resources department functions is a matter of urgency. Go out of your way to make sure that this department is not only doing its job but isn’t causing friction between the various levels of your business. If you can create a harmonious relationship between all departments, you are going to get superior results.
