Chesapeake Public Schools Helps Employees Stay Healthy with New Partnership with Marathon Health

Partnership expands Marathon Health’s services to school districts in Virginia
BURLINGTON, VERMONT (PRWEB) APRIL 27, 2016
Chesapeake Public Schools (CPS) today announced its partnership with Marathon Health, Inc. to offer onsite healthcare services to approximately 12,000 eligible employees, spouses, dependents, and retirees. The partnership is part of Chesapeake Public Schools’ effort to increase participation in primary and preventive care services, improve the health of their population, and reduce healthcare costs.
Chesapeake Public Schools is the seventh largest school division in Virginia with nearly 40,000 students in fifty-seven schools and support centers. The partnership continues Marathon Health’s expansion in the state of Virginia as well as the public education sector.
The two health centers staffed by four nurse practitioners and four medical assistants will open in summer of 2016, and will provide the school division with total population health management, including primary care, health assessments, health coaching, and chronic condition management. Marathon Health is currently recruiting for the nurse practitioner and medical assistant positions at the health centers.
“These health centers will be conveniently located and offer less wait time than traditional doctors’ offices. This will allow more time to be spent with the provider and less time away from the workplace,” said Dr. James Roberts, superintendent of Chesapeake Public Schools. “Ultimately, these health centers will improve the quality of life for CPS employees, not just because of the increased convenience, but because the centers will give them the opportunity to enjoy more productive professional and personal lives.”
By approaching the health of individuals in a holistic manner, Marathon Health empowers people to take control of their own health and healthcare. The health centers will be available for Chesapeake Public Schools employees when they are not well, but the greater focus will be on engaging the population to help them reach their wellness goals and stay healthier longer.
“Our ability to impact the health of the population is due to our model of care. We slow down the process to give time necessary to build a relationship and treat the whole person, not just a list of symptoms,” said Jerry Ford, Marathon Health CEO.
Marathon Health will tailor the services available at the health centers to address the specific healthcare needs of Chesapeake Public Schools’ population. This method of healthcare has been proven to reduce total population health risks, which saves employees and their employers time and money.
